  • Captain Cook and the crew of the Endeavor sight Australia.

    Captain Cook was not the First to sight Australia he was the first to map it and claim it for England.
  • Mathew Flinders crew are assisted by a group of indigenous people in the search for fresh water on the Island.

  • Three timber cutters are shipwrecked on Moreton Island. They spent 6 months in the company of the indiginous tribe the Nooncus.

  • Moreton Bay's first pilot station is set up at Stradbroke.

    Pilots helped steer an incomong ship into the bay. They would row out to all ships and take over command for the short tripp throught th bay.
  • Minjerriba is officialy named Stradbroke Island by Governor Darwin.

  • The Pilot Station on Stradbroke closes.

  • Dunwich settlement is shut town and becomes a wood cutting settlement.

  • Dunwich becomes Moreton bay's first quarrantine station.

    Just a few weeks after opening the ship Emmigrant arrived carrying typhus. 56 people died.
  • Dugong hunting begins

  • Dunwich Qurrantine closes

    Thhe station was still used for specific situatiions.
  • Dunwich benevolent asylum opens

  • A ship called The Cambus Wallace is wrecked leading to the seperation of Stradbroke

    This ship was carrying explosives the cargo detoneted leavinng large holes in the sand dunes.
  • Stradbroke Island becomes North Strdbroke and South Stradbroke.

    Further erosion and a large summer storm washed away the remaining sand splitting the island in two.
  • A skeleton is found on Skeleton beach from the sunken ship Prosperity. Hence the name.

  • St Mark's Church is built at Dunwich.

  • The first tourism business is started by Bert Clayton.

    Bert Clayton opened a small guest house on lad close to South Gorge.
  • First Catholic Mission on Stradbroke

  • Dunwich benevolent asylum close down

  • Sand mining starts on the Island. The target was zinc.

  • Indigenous soldiers were allowed to vote

  • Rutile mining begins on the Island

  • Stradbroke ferries starts up.

  • Aboriginals are awarded civil rights in Queensland. And permitted to vote.

  • Commercial dugong hunting is banned

  • First Federal election Indigenous australian were permitted to vote in.

  • Dredge mining starts on Stradbroke
