    200,000 protesters, petitoned for better working conditions, more personal freedom, and an elected national legislature. This unpeaceful protesting sparked a wave of strikes and violence across the country. Even killing those who got in thier way.

    First time Duma met. The leaders moderates who wanted Russia to be constitutional monarchy like Britain. Czar dissolved it after 10 weeks.
  • World War 1

    Russia joined WW1 unprepared and with limited reasources. They were defeated with loses of 4 million. Many more were wounded or taken prisoner.
  • March Revolution

    March Revolution
    Riots broke out over shortage of bread and fuel. Soldiers obeyed oders to shoot the 200,000 protesters. Then joined the protesters eventually.
  • Government Topples

    Government Topples
    Armed factory workers stormed Winter Palace in Petrograd. Took government officials/arrested leaders of provisional government. Days after farmland was distributed to pheasants.

    Russia surrenered large amount of land to Germany. Triggered widespread anger among Russians. They objected to murder royal family.
  • Civil War

    Most deadly civil war to take place. 14 million Russians died in the 3 year struggle. The famine that followed also contributed to the deaths.
  • New Economic policy

    Plan for a small - scale version of capitalism. It would be called New Ecomonic Policy. The government would keep control of major industries, banks, communication, ect. The government would also control foreign investments.
  • USSR

    The country was renamed The Union of Sovied Socialist Republics. It was in honor of the councils that helped launch the Bolshevik Revolution. Bolshevik's renamed their party the communist party in relation to the writings of Karl Marx.
