    Mao Zendong Heads Long March
    Civil War breaks out in China between the Nationalists and Communists. Mao lead his Red Army on a 6,000 mile march trying to escape the Nationalist. They do survive, and more support from peasants come the the Communists. The Communists will eventually come back and defeat the Nationalist party.

    Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
    On 1 September 1939 Germany invaded Poland, and two days later Britain and France declared war on Germany because they had a treaty with Poland. Many people see this as the beginning of World War 2.
  • Japan attacks Pearl Harbor

    Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
    In the early hours of the morning, Japan attacked the Pacific Naval Fleet at Pearl Harbor. It was the first attack on US soil during WW2. Roosevelt declared it as "a date that will live in infamy". After this, the US officially joined the war on the side of the allies.

    Germany surrenders
    The final battles of World War II as well as the German surrender to the Allies took place in late April and early May 1945. The surrender ended the war in Europe. The end for Germany started when the allies invaded on D-Day. After that forces from the east and west pushed to Berlin, and eventually the surrender.

    Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    After the surrender of Germany, and heavy loses in major battles, the US threaten Japan to surrender or be bombed. The US received no responce, so the first ever atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. 3 days later, the US dropped another atomic bomb on Nagasaki. The Japanese surrendured soon after.
  • United Nations Formed

    United Nations Formed
    After World War 2, the League of Nations was disbanded, after failing to prevent the second world war. 50 countries met in San Francisco, to discuss creating a new and improved League of Nations. The United Nations Charter was drawn up, and the UN was born.
