During the midst of a civil war in China between the Communists and Nationalist. When it seemed as though the Nationalists were winning the fight they began to chase the Communists, headed by Mao Zedong. The long journey ended when Japan saw that China was weak and decided to invade them. -
Germany Invades Poland ; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
At the beginning of WWII Germany hunting for land decides to invade Poland which the Germans and Russians had been battling to try to control. This leads France and Great Britain to declare war on Germany because they see Germany is trying to take over lands in Europe. -
Japan Attacks Pearl Harbor
Japan wanting to surrender Hawaii from the US bomb a naval base called Pearl Harbor. This attack was a very significant attack because this is wh ythe US became part of WWII if not the US would have stayed out of the war. This was also among the first of terrorist like attacks on the US. -
United Nations formed
After the devastating WWII the world was left in ruins. No country wanted to go through another war like this. So in an effort to keep peace among the world the United Nations were formed. -
Germany Surrenders
The Battle of Berlin ended in early May where the Germans unconditionally surrendered to the Soviets. And right around that time the Germans surrendered to the Western Allies aswell. -
Allies use atomic bombs on the Japanese
The war between Japan and the US was still raging however. It had come to a point where the US began a program for creating nuclear weapons. The US threataned Japan and after hearing nothing back form the Japanese they dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima and only three days later the US dropped another on Nagasaki. This was the first time nuclear weapons had been used in a war ever.
