Ulysses S. Grant was the first person to try and attempt to run for more than 2 terms. He failed at the more that 2 terms as presidency he did not get elected by his party. He tried to run once more but that one also failed so he was never a third term presidency.

Trying to repeal the 22nd amendment
There was a big push by many people to try to get Obama to try and run for another term. The people that pushed this were the ones who did not think that Trump and Clinton would not be good presidents but as you see now the push never got any further and never worked.
